Shawn Lockett was named an assistant coach with AIC football in 2023, and will serve as the team’s offensive line coach in 2024. Coach Lockett will spend time with the offensive tackles and tight ends.
Lockett started his college coaching career coaching AIC’s defensive line in 2023 after several years coaching at Springfield Central High School, where he helped lead the Eagles to three MIAA Championships. During Lockett’s time in Springfield Central, he had the opportunity to coach his younger cousin Terry Lockett Jr., who went on to Syracuse as a defensive tackle before transferring to James Madison University, Amari Owens, an offensive tackle now at Columbia University, and Jayden Bass, an offensive tackle who went to Syracuse before transferring to the University of Connecticut.
Prior to Lockett’s coaching career, he played nine years in the professional ranks, mainly in the Arena Football League (AFL), most notably for the Massachusetts Pirates and Albany Firebirds. During the 2021 season, Lockett served as team captain and led the Albany Empire to an AFL ArenaBowl XXXI Championship, while also earning First Team All-Arena.
Coach Lockett is a graduate of AIC, Class of 2016, and resides in the Springfield metro area.
