Graduate Assistant: Strength & Conditioning

Selected Graduate Assistant will work directly in the Athletic Training office to assist the strength and conditioning coach with day-to-day coaching/teaching, support and administrative procedures. This position will directly report to Mike Dance, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.

American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 70+ acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. The campus has 42 buildings on two sites approximately 1/2 mile apart with a total of approximately 660,000 gross square feet. Included in the inventory of buildings are student residences for a resident population of 900 students. Founded in 1885, the College has 3700 graduate and undergraduate students. American International College (AIC) participates in NCAA Division I Ice Hockey (Atlantic Hockey Association) and Division I Women’s Rugby (National Intercollegiate Rugby Association). For all other varsity sports, AIC participates in NCAA Division II and competes in the prestigious Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10). 

Position Overview:

  • Teaching & Coaching (80%) - Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach to provide student-athletes with the necessary knowledge, skills and experiences required to be competitive at their chosen position or area.
    • Assist in the creation of training programs and protocols for assigned teams
    • Teach & coach student athletes during assigned conditioning and weight training sessions
    • Supervise/oversee team training sessions
    • Assist in other duties as assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
  • Administration (20%) - Assist with key administrative tasks including weight room and fitness center maintenance, creation and distribution of team training programs, and facility and equipment management and maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Admittance into an AIC graduate program
    • Program must be: MS in Exercise Science
  • Completed Undergraduate Education
  • Two-year commitment as a Graduate Assistant preferred
  • Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience preferred
  • Proficiency in coaching and skill analysis within the sport one is applying
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and demonstrate strong organizational skills 

Salary: Total Stipend is $2,500/semester plus a tuition waiver of 6 credits/semester (up to $1010/credit).
