Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball falls to Southern Connecticut State

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - A tough shooting day doomed the American International College women's basketball team in a 70-39 loss to Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast 10 Conference contest on Saturday, January 17.

AIC is now 10-6 overall and 4-4 in the NE10.

Chelsea Reeves responded to a pair of Owls free throws with a three just past the one-minute mark, but that ended up being the only field goal of the first quarter for AIC. The Owls rushed to a double digit lead and ended the frame on a 12-0 run, and Reeves had all five of AIC's points in the period thanks to the early three and a pair of free throws. After one, the Owls led 21-5.

Although the Yellow Jackets somewhat came alive offensively in the second quarter, with Ruzgar Christina Boyle and Masha Andrushchenko each making multiple shots, the Owls were able to match AIC's output in the period, scoring the second's final points and leading 34-18 at halftime.

In the third, the Owls expanded the lead to 20 for the first time, as AIC continued to struggle to make shots. Peyton Grant did hit a three, but the Owls led 47-28 through half an hour of play.

Southern Connecticut did not take its foot off the gas in the final frame, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 23-11 for the 70-39 win.

Reeves led AIC with 14 points in the game.

AIC will try to get back to the win column on Wednesday, January 21 with an NE10 battle against Saint Michael's College at 5:30 p.m. at the Butova Gym.
