ASUNCION, Paraguay – American International College sophomore Kiyanah Edwards has been selected to play for and captain the United States Women's Sevens team at the Junior Panam Games to be held August 16-17 in Asuncion, Paraguay, USA Rugby announced.

The Eagles will take on Paraguay, Mexico, and Brazil in the pool play matches on August 16 before the knockout rounds begin on August 17.

"Rugby has always been more than a sport for me. It's a way to honor my family and the values they've taught me:  hard work, humility, and perseverance. Wearing the USA Captain's shirt is a privilege I don't take lightly; it's not just about leading on the field, but about setting a standard for my teammates and representing our country with pride," Edwards said.

Director of Rugby Jameson Bonti noted "Kiyanah's selection to the National Team is just another step on her incredible journey, a journey that's been defined by a relentless work ethic to her craft and belief in both herself and her teammates."

Edwards was a key cog in an AIC team that rose all the way to the top in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association in 2024, as the team went undefeated in NIRA Division II to claim its second national title in four seasons.

She earned First-Team All-NIRA accolades in her inaugural collegiate season and additionally was a National Collegiate Rugby Scholastic All-American. During the spring sevens season, she helped AIC to a third-place finish at the Collegiate Rugby Championship, as the Yellow Jackets defeated Norwich University, Wheeling University, and Penn State University.

Bonti recognized her role in the team's success, saying "What truly sets her apart is her ability to make her teammates better; she leads by example, and her influence is felt throughout our AIC Rugby Family. A true leader is the catalyst for healthy habits in others. The best has yet to come for Kiyanah and we're excited to help her soar!"

At the same time, Edwards knows how influential being a Yellow Jacket has been on her rise in USA Rugby.

"My time at AIC is continually shaping me into the player I aspire to be - from the challenges that push me to grow, to the teammates and coaches who believe in me. Every step of this journey is something I carry with me when I put on that jersey," she said.
