MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - The American International College softball team dropped a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games at Saint Anselm College, 9-1 and 3-1, on Saturday, April 19.
AIC is now 9-19 overall and 4-12 in the NE10.
Destiny McGrath doubled in Lauryn Ramalho in the third inning for her 100th career hit, but the Hawks bounced back with three in the bottom half with two singles and an Alyssa Wironen two-run home run. In the fifth, the Hawks closed out the game as Jamie Calkins hit a grand slam, and five straight walks pushed in two more runs, bringing the run rule into effect with a 9-1 score.
In game two, the Hawks scored the first run in the fourth inning with a double-steal attempt; although AIC was able to put out the runner at second, Calkins made it home safely. In the fifth, Rose Reitmeyer hit a two-run shot, extending the lead to 3-1.
AIC was able to get one back in the sixth as Nevaeh Trejo singled and Julia Krijgsman walked; both advanced on a groundout, and Krijgsman scored on a wild pitch. However, the Yellow Jackets could not push another run across, leading to the 3-1 Hawks win.
Assumption University is AIC's next opponent and the doubleheader serves as the home finale for the Yellow Jackets on Thursday, April 24 beginning at 2:00 p.m.
