Track competes at two meets in busy weekend

The American International College track and field team competed at the Queens College Invitational and the Wilton Wright Invitational at Southern Connecticut State University over the course of April 11-12, with a few key performances boosting AIC's spots in the rankings ahead of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in early May.

On the women's side, Monique Malcolm picked up a win in the 100-meter dash at Queens and finished fifth at SCSU in the same event the following day, with times of 13.00 and 13.05 seconds, respectively. She also ran second in the 200-meter dash at Queens in 27.41 seconds. Johnelle Thomas took third in the 200 and 400-meter dash events at Queens in 27.68 seconds and 1:07.37, respectively, before a 15.67-second finish in the 100-meter hurdles placed her third at SCSU.

Fransiscah Cherotich went the longer distances, winning the 1500-meter run at Queens in 5:35.40, while she took fifth in the 800-meter run at SCSU in 2:40.43. Bianca Hiltz won the long and triple jumps at Queens with leaps of 4.45 meters and 9.64 meters, respectively.

For the men, Mike Ricketts took fourth in both 100-meter dash events, with a time of 11.45 seconds at Queens that dropped to 11.28 seconds at SCSU. Kevin Brady scored in both 400-meter dash events, winning at Queens in 52.59 seconds and taking eighth at SCSU in 51.53 seconds. 

The most impressive individual showing was Malachi O'Neal's. He won the long jump at the Wilton Wright Invitational with a 6.97-meter leap, moving into second in the NE10 in the event.

AIC's 4x400-meter relay unit also improved its seed time, running a 3:44.15 between Joel Lisoma, Ben Stevenson, Evan Fitzgerald, and Christopher Dias. 

The teams next head to the UConn Northeast Challenge in Storrs, Connecticut on Friday, April 18.
