Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball handles Felician, improves to 4-0

RUTHERFORD, New Jersey - The American International College women's basketball team dominated the middle of the game to defeat Felician University 65-41 on Saturday, November 22.

AIC is now 4-0.

Keyvanna Bennett scored the game's first four points, but the Golden Falcons rallied from there with 10 straight before Bennett knocked down another shot. The hosts built to a 14-7 lead, but the final bucket of the frame was a three from Chelsea Reeves, pulling AIC within four after one.

The Yellow Jackets regained the advantage early in the second with an Ahliya Phillips make and another deep shot from Reeves, and after a quick four-point Felician run, Reeves tied it again with her third three. The Golden Falcons retook the lead twice more and AIC tied it each time, as Bennett continued to score down the stretch, which, along with two Jada Bryant free throws, put AIC up 26-21 at the half.

An 11-0 run keyed the start of the third as AIC pulled away, with Sarai Gurley scoring an and-one plus a separate free throw as part of the push. The Golden Falcons barely found the net in the third, and AIC ended on another five-point run with Reeves and Eden Monka scoring to get ahead 45-26 at the final break.

Bennett and Reeves built the lead to 22, and after a Felician and-one countered those early fourth-frame points, Reeves found Peyton Grant open for a triple. AIC had an answer for every bucket the Golden Falcons scored, and only added to the lead. Bryant knocked in a layup with 1:11 to go to expand AIC's advantage to a game-high 24 with a 65-41 edge, and that proved to be the final score as Bryant also blocked the last shot the home squad took.

Bennett led the day with a 21-11 double-double, while Reeves scored 16 points. AIC's top duo went 14-of-27 from the field and six-of-eight from the line in accounting for their 37 combined points, nearly scoring enough to match Felician's entire team.

The Yellow Jackets look to extend the streak to five when they open Northeast 10 Conference play on Tuesday, November 25 at Assumption University at 5:30 p.m.
