WORCESTER, Massachusetts - The American International College ice hockey team lost a 5-2 Atlantic Hockey America matchup on Thursday, November 7 at the College of the Holy Cross.
AIC is now 1-6-1 overall with a 1-2-0-0-0-1 AHA mark.
The Crusaders jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first on goals by Jack Seymour and Michael Hodge.
In the second, the hosts nearly took a 3-0 lead on a shorthanded breakaway, but a sliding save by Peyton Grainer kept the puck out. Less than a minute later, Casey McDonald banged home a rebound at 2:12 for his first of the year after taking a pass from the left side from Justin Mexico. Blake Dangos also earned an assist on the play.
Michael Abgrall restored Holy Cross's two-goal advantage, and Matt Shatsky made it 4-1 Crusaders late in the second.
AIC drew a penalty and was able to capitalize, as Brett Rylance finished a passing play at the right post from Noah Serdachny for his first of the season at 16:20.
The Yellow Jackets battled to get closer in the third, but could not, and a Liam McLinskey empty netter at 17:13 ended AIC's comeback hopes.
Grainer stopped 24 shots in the setback; Holy Cross outshot AIC 29-26.
The two teams play again Friday, November 8 at 7:05 p.m.
