SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College ice hockey team earned a hard-fought 4-2 win over the Air Force Academy in Atlantic Hockey America play on Saturday, October 26.
AIC is now 1-4-1 overall and 1-1-0-0-0-1 in the AHA.
The Yellow Jackets took an early 1-0 lead off of a failed clear. Brett Bamber held the puck in at the right point, and then drove down into the zone before firing across the netmouth for Danny Weight to deflect in his first of the season just 4:03 into the contest.
That lead held for the remainder of the first and most of the second, but off a late rush, Nick Sajevic knocked home a rebound at 19:07, tying the game.
It did not take long for AIC to regain the lead. On a delayed penalty in the second, Blake Dangos was able to get the puck to Alfred Lindberg, who rushed end-to-end through the Falcons defense and got close to the net before dishing to a wide-open John Lundy for a one-timer goal at 1:42, his first of the season.
Shortly after, the Yellow Jackets took the weekend's first two-goal advantage; Brett Rylance moved the puck back to the point for Tyler Procious, who ripped a shot that Noah Serdachny tipped in for his first in an AIC uniform at 3:05.
The Falcons again refused to roll over, and cut the deficit to 3-2 with a Chris Hedden goal at 15:29.
Air Force once again pushed for the tying goal, pulling Guy Blessing for a sixth attacker. Unlike the previous game, however, the Yellow Jackets were the beneficiary, as Timofei Khokhlachev stole a centering pass in the slot in AIC's end and fired the puck into the open net at 19:19 for his second of the year to seal the win.
Chase Clark was strong in the net for the Yellow Jackets, turning back 26 shots in the win.
AIC returns to action on Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the MassMutual Center against the University of Massachusetts.
