Softball falls to Hawks despite Andrade's 100th hit

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College softball team could not hold leads in heartbreaking Northeast-10 Conference losses to Saint Anselm College, 6-4 in eight innings and 8-5, on Saturday, April 22.

AIC is now 6-34 with a 2-16 NE10 mark.

AIC opened the scoring with a bang in the second as Victoria Andrade launched a solo home run to left center. The team then tacked on a run in the third as Abigail Wells singled to right and Alexis Jimenez followed with a flare down the line that fell in for a double, scoring Wells.

In the fourth, Brianna Harzula walked and took second on a wild pitch. That set up Kodi Gora, who hit a ball to the base of the fence in center, driving her in.

Andrade came to the dish again in the sixth, sitting on 99 career hits. She turned on a high pitch and drove it to left once again, clearing the fence for her second home run of the day, giving AIC a 4-1 lead and joining the 100-hit club with one swing.

Unfortunately, the Hawks rallied in the seventh, collecting four hits to tie the game. In the eighth, a two-out, two-run home run gave them the lead, and AIC could not level the score.

In game two, AIC jumped out to an early lead. Wells led off with an infield hit and Mackenzie Berman walked. Andrade then singled to load the bases and Harzula had an RBI groundout before Gora doubled again into the right-field gap to push two more in.

Two innings later, AIC added another pair. Berman knocked a single to left, and then scored wheen Andrade doubled to right. Andrade ultimately came home thanks to a wild pitch and a fielding error.

The Hawks scored one in the fourth, and then erupted in the fifth. They sent twelve batters to the dish and took advantage of three errors to score seven times and take an 8-5 lead. Neither team scored the rest of the way, resulting in the final score.

The team will host its home finale Monday, April 24 with two against Southern New Hampshire University.
