CLERMONT, Florida - The American International College softball team fell 5-3 and 8-0 to Slippery Rock and Illinois-Springfield on Monday, March 13.
AIC's record fell to 0-6 with the setbacks.
Slippery Rock took a 3-0 lead into the fourth before AIC's first run, as Alexis Jimenez singled and then advanced on a pair of passed balls and a wild pitch.
The Rock added two in the sixth, but in the final frame, AIC fought back. Victoria Andrade led off with a double, and came home on a Taylor Murphy single. She was sacrificed over, allowing Destiny McGrath to drive her in with a hit. Mackenize Berman then singled, putting the tying run aboard. Jimenez smashed a liner that seemed destined for the right-center gap, but a diving catch ended the rally and the game.
The Yellow Jackets battled against Illinois-Springfield, and kept it to 2-0 until late, when a six-run sixth brought the run rule into effect.
AIC will look to bounce back with games against regional foes Alliance and St. Thomas Aquinas on March 14.
