Johnson wins at 141, leads wrestling at Will Abele Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pennsylvania - Sean Johnson took the 141-pound weight class title and four other Yellow Jackets placed as the American International College wrestling team finished eighth of 15 teams at Ursinus College's Will Able Invitational on Saturday, January 14.

Justin Osler and Andrew Bumpus each finished eighth at 197 and heavyweight, while Markys Lissaint was seventh at 197. Osler's wins included a pin of Nassau's Isaiah Lee at 4:59 and a 15-2 major decision over Griffin Ostrom of Western New England. Bumpus pinned Gettysburg's Max Ferguson just 22 seconds into their bout, and took decisions against James Clarkson of Nassau and Igor Lakicevic of Southern Virginia before poinning Keystone's Brendan Hamilton at 4:36. Lissaint pinned Temple's Alessandro Vennettilli and scored a 5-1 decision over Matthew Clarkson of Nassau.

Joel Morth made it to the medal stand at 157 by taking third; he opened by pinning Daniel Kosinski of Scranton at 6:38, then earned a technical fall win over Peter Charnley of Western New England, 19-4. He blanked Alex Stavrou of The College of New Jersey, 12-0, for a major decision, before dropping an 8-3 bout to Stavrou's teammate Matthew Sacco in the semifinal; his third place opponent, Adam Busiello of Nassau, was unable to compete due to injury, handing Morth the bronze.

Johnson was a dominating force at 141. He opened by taking an 8-0 major decision against Blake O'Brien of Elmira, then pinned Preston Holt of Southern Virginia at 0:37. He defeated Quincy Howard of Nassau 9-4 to reach the final, and edged out Josh Post of RIT 3-2 to take the title.

One other notable showing for AIC was two pins by Liam Pritchard Holland at 125, as he pinned William Schwartz of Ursinus at 4:18 and Francisco Ramirez of Southern Virginia at 2:21.

The team next heads to Millersville University to take on both Millersville and Shhippensburg on Saturday, January 28.
