HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Taylor Mendicino hit a home run to left in the game's second at-bat to put the Mountain Lions ahead 1-0.
  • In the third, Pitt-Johnstown added to the lead with three. Mendicino walked and swiped second before Tori Radvan doubled her in. Maddie Flowers then hit a ground rule double to left to plate Radvan. An infield single and a groundout brought Flowers in to give the Mountain Lions a 4-0 advantage.
  • AIC returned fire in the home half of the inning as Abigail Wells singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Mackenzie Berman then drove the ball through the middle of the infield to bring the speedy Wells home.
  • The Mountain Lions added another trio in the fourth, all with two outs. Mendicino slammed her second home run of the game, and Radvan followed with a double. Carly Santillo then pushed the ball over the left field fence for a 7-1 score.
  • The Yellow Jackets notched a home run of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Kodi Gora launched a pitch into the grass beyond the fence with one out in the frame for a solo shot.
  • Wells used her speed to get AIC another run in the fifth, driving a ball into right and flying all the way to third base. Two batters later, Berman singled to right to drive her in. Alexis Jimenez followed with another single, but the Yellow Jackets stranded the duo.
  • Alyssa Hileman handled business in the final two frames for the Mountain Lions, sitting down the side in order in both the sixth and seventh for the complete-game win.
