HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Destiny McGrath opened things with a bang, crushing the ball over the right-center field fence for a home run to lead off the game.
  • Mackenzie Berman followed with a double and took third as Alexis Jimenez singled. Berman came home in the next at-bat as Trinadey Santiago singled through the right side.
  • Two batters later, Santiago and Jimenez moved up on a passed ball. That allowed Leah Twyman to knock them both in by singling up the middle, bringing AIC's lead to 4-0.
  • The Owls exacted revenge in the home half. A leadoff walk by Emily Lange turned into a run two batters later on a Jacqueline Dumont double. Back-to-back errors between a pair of wild pitches put the Owls in a position for a huge inning, and Dominique DeLutri cashed in, hitting a two-run triple to right that put the Owls ahead 5-4.
  • AIC bounced back thanks to a leadoff double by Abigail Wells and an Owl error that brought her home, tying the game 5-5 in the second. However, in the home half, the hosts struck again, with Lange singling and Delaporta blasting a two-run shot to left for a 7-5 Owls lead.
  • AIC had the leadoff runner on in the third and fourth, but did not score again until the fifth, when Kodi Gora launched a solo shot to cut the deficit to 7-6. However, AIC could not get the seventh run, dropping game one.
  • McGrath scored the opening tally of the second game as well, singling and then advancing on an error and another single by Santiago before Gora brought her in with a sacrifice fly. The Owls likewise manufactured a run in their half inning, with a single, hit batter, walk, and RBI groundout.
  • The Owls erupted for five in the second. The first two batters reached on a hit by pitch and walk, but AIC looked like it might get away with it after a groundout and strikeout. However, a walk loaded the bags, and Dumont slapped a two-run single to center. After another walk reloaded the bases, Roy singled to move everyone up. A passed ball and wild pitch later, and the Owls led 6-1.
  • In the third, the Owls added another run; pinch hitter Gabriella Festa homered to left for a 7-1 advantage. They would score again in the fourth on a Liz DeRosa RBI single, and in the fifth, a Morgan Tuscano RBI single brought the run rule into effect, ending the game at 9-1 for the home team.
