BRISTOL, Rhode Island – The American International College wrestling team competed at the Scott Viera Open hosted by Roger Williams University on Saturday, December 10.
Two Yellow Jackets placed, with Aaron Morocho finishing fourth at 133 and Jack Mackiernan taking third at 184.

Morocho started strong, pinning Tyler Lacni of the host Hawks at 6:16, but was pinned by Evan Tallmadge of the Naval Academy Prep School. He bounced back to win 12-6 over Beckett Herman of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and then 7-3 against unattached wrestler Jordan Rowlette. A medical forfeit put him into the third place match, where he faced Tallmadge again, and lost via technical fall, 19-2, to finish fourth.
Mackiernan opened against Owe Ayotte of Sacred Heart University and dominated, earning a tech fall win 18-3, but lost an 11-2 major decision to Zyan Hall of NAPS. He rebounded to pin Cole Wolkner of Roger Williams, and in the third place match handled Ayotte again, winning 18-0 for his second tech fall of the day.
Other notable bouts for AIC included Dylan Kasperzyk pinning Anthony Digennaro of Springfield College at 1:26 and Tommy Caracciolo scoring a 16-0 tech fall of Springfield's Billy Blumenthal in the 165-pound bracket, Alfred Macneill defeating Bailey O'Brien of Johnson & Wales 2-1 at 174, Justin Osler winning an 11-2 major decision from Doug Clark and Matt Bremner taking a 15-9 decision against Nick Blitz, both of Springfield, in the 197-pound tournament.
The team will turn its focus to the largest regular season tournament in Division II, the Midwest Classic, on December 17-18 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
