EAST STROUDSBURG, Pennsylvania – Tommy Nichols led an octet of placers for the American International College wrestling team, winning the 149-pound bracket at the 55th Annual East Stroudsburg Open on Sunday, November 6.

Joel Morth and Darius Quarshie both placed sixth for AIC, at 157 and heavyweight respectively. Morth's day included a pin over Pedro Rosales and a 6-3 decision against Cameron Bruffy of Centenary, while Quarshie defeated Shane Saulnier of Sussex County.
Kyrie Williams and Andrew Bumpus took fifth for AIC, at 165 and heavyweight; notably for Bumpus, his win came in a 4-1 decision against Quarshie in the fifth-place bout.
Aaron Morocho, at 133, and Sean Johnson, at 141, each came in third for the Yellow Jackets. Morocho's day included a win over Javien Deleon of Kutztown followed by pinning Anthony Hernandez before ultimately taking the third-place ranking with a 6-4 decision against Kelvin Rodriguez of East Stroudsburg. Johnson scored a 4-0 win over Matt Morris and then pinned Andre Ruiz in the third-place bout.
Rookie Jack Mackiernan took silver at 184, opening with a strong 6-2 win against the host's Max Winkler. He ten pinned Dante Gutbrod to advance to the semifinal, where he won over Anthony D'alesio. He dropped the final match to Kutztown's Matthew Weinberg.
At 149, no one could touch Nichols. He opened with a late-first period pin of ESU's Jacob Remolina, and followed by a 15-0 technical fall against Alex Bendinelli of Millersville. In the semifinal, he scored a 14-5 major decision against the host's Eric Falleni, and won 10-3 over Millersville's Josh Tuckey in the title fight.
AIC will next take on Springfield's best at the City Championship on Saturday, November 13 beginning at 10:00 AM.
