Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Strong middle frame leads Maine past ice hockey

ORONO, Maine - The American International College ice hockey team fell to the University of Maine by a 5-1 score in nonconference action on Saturday, November 26.

AIC is now 7-7-3 on the season.

Maine struck first near the midpoint of the opening frame as Nolan Renwick redirected a Felix Trudeau bid at 8:20.

The Yellow Jackets countered shortly after. On the power play, Blake Bennett went from the left circle below the goal line with a pass to Dustin Manz. Manz in turn fired the puck into the slot for Julius Janhonen, who one-timed home his fifth of the campaign at 11:33. The score remained 1-1 after one, as AIC killed a pair of penalties down the stretch of the stanza.

The Black Bears took control of the game thereafter. An early Lynden Breen goal, just 1:06 in, set the tone for a three-goal frame for Maine, despite 19 saves in the period for Jarrett Fiske.

Maine put a bow on the game late in the third with the final goal, a seeing-eye deflection by Luke Antonacci at 14:24 for the 5-1 final.

Fiske totalled 33 saves in 40 minutes; Brennan Boynton, making his debut, stopped eight shots of nine he faced in the third.

The Yellow Jackets resume Atlantic Hockey Association play on Thursday, December 1, starting a home-and-home set with Bentley University at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at the MassMutual Center box office or by visiting www.aictix.com.
