Yellow Jackets softball takes first of two against Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, NEW YORK- The American International College softball team split the series with the Le Moyne Dolphins in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
  • Le Moyne's Dominique Russo opened up the scoring in the first when Russo walked and subsequently stole second. From there BrookeNicolaos hit a double to bring Russo home and the score 1-0 Dolphins.
  • From there we didn't see any scoring change until the top of the fourth when Brianna Rivera singled, followed by Victoria Andrade and Mackenzie Berman who both walked, sending Rivera in within scoring range. Two singles by Abigail Wells and Jalia Santos brought both Rivera and Andrade home to move the Yellow Jackets into the lead, 2-1.
  • Le Moyne fought back in the fifth as Kaily LaForce bunted bringing Konik home, and the score to 2-2. A single by Jillian Dunn with an awaiting Taylor Artley on third gave the lead back to Le Moyne 3-2, as Artley scored.
  • The final stand by the Yellow Jackets came from a single by Kodi Gora with the bases loaded, gave Brianna Harzula the go-ahead to tie it up at 3. Followed closely by Alexis Jimenez who also scored on Gora's single, giving AIC the lead which they would not give up in the bottom of the seventh.
Game 2:
  • In the bottom of the second, Le Moyne went on a six-run stretch as Cassidy Barrett, Victoria Catalano, Lindsey Dobbs, Konik, Artley, and LaForce each scored.
  • The Dolphins added to their lead in the third as Dobbs was brought home on a single by Artley, and Catalano was given the go ahead on a single to right by LaForce.
  • A double to right center by Catalano brought home Dobbs and Russo, extending the Dolphins lead to 10.
  • The Yellow Jackets started to claw their way out of the ten-run deficit, as Santos singled to right and gave Wells and Gora the opportunity to cut the lead by two, 10-2. Santos followed suit as Ortega doubled to right giving her the go-ahead run.
  • The final scoring play was by the Dolphins' Russo as she was brought home by Barrett's single to right, bringing the final score to 11-3.

  • The Yellow Jackets will be spending their Easter Sunday on the road in Syracuse on Sunday, April 4 as they face Le Moyne for a rematch at 10am and 12pm.
