HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams battled the entire night with two of the four quarters being one-point rounds and another a four-point margin.
  • Tied at eight with five minutes left senior Destine Perry nailed a triple to give AIC the lead. The Ravens hit a jumper on the other end to bring it back within one. Perry continued her scoring run with four straight-made free throws in the next two AIC possessions to give the Yellow Jackets the 15-10 lead.
  • With 46 seconds remaining in the opening frame, the Ravens took the 17-16 lead and extended it by two more points with six seconds left to lead after one.
  • AIC controlled the second quarter thanks in part to their defense as they held the Ravens scoreless over the first four minutes and did not allow a field goal to the home team for almost four and a half minutes. During this run, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to the 24-20 lead.
  • Under-five minutes remained with Perry and junior Kyla Smith both hit a pair of freebees to give AIC the 31-24 lead. Two possessions later sophomore Kayla Robinson changed the scoreboard by two points. Thirty seconds later Perry drilled another three and the Ravens decided to call a timeout. In the last two minutes of the half, the Ravens outscored the Yellow Jackets 6-2, but AIC went into the locker room with a 38-30 lead.
  • The first two and a half minutes of the third frame had 12 points scored, eight of which were in favor of the Yellow Jackets. The next minute turned out not to be as hot for the Ravens either as Smith hit a free throw and Perry laid one in on a fastbreak and forced another Raven timeout. After three-quarters of play, AIC led 52-43.
  • With 6:46 remaining in the game, the Ravens started to chip away at the 10-point AIC lead with a jumper that was followed up with a deep ball two possessions later that made it a five-point game, 55-50. Three and a half minutes remained when the Ravens knotted the game at 55.
  • Smith hit a jumper to retake the lead, but Franklin Pierce answered the call on the other end with a jumper of their own. Perry stepped the line with 1:34 showing and made a pair of free throws that gave AIC the 59-57 lead. Fourteen seconds later Emma Carter of Franklin Pierce did the same.
  • An offensive foul with 1:10 remaining allowed the Ravens to take a two-point lead with under 50 seconds left in the game.
  • The Ravens had the ball up two 44 seconds left and took a two-point jumper with eight seconds on the shot clock, but it rimmed out and the Yellow Jackets went the other way with it. Perry started on the left wing with her dribble and came out a double-screen by seniors Sara Guntin Barriero and Jayla McDuffie. The first defender sagged back into the paint and the second was knocked off-course by McDuffie which allowed Perry to square up from the right lane-line extended and get off a shot that found the bottom of the net.
  • On the ensuing possession, freshman Julia Carbonell Munoz stole the ball and was fouled with two seconds left. She nailed them both and sealed the 64-61 win for AIC.
