HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Eagles jumped on the Yellow Jackets inside of the first minute of the game, as Colby Ambrosio snapped home a shot from in front of the net just 0:56 into the contest.
  • AIC settled in and generated some chances of its own, including sets of back-to-back bids by senior Chris Van Os-Shaw and graduate student Brian Rigali that Eric Dop kept out of the net; the sequence of shots by Van Os-Shaw also saw senior Chris Theodore hit the post with a chance.
  • At the other end, redshirt sophomore Jake Kucharski shook off the early tally to make 17 saves in the frame, including four while the Eagles had their two first-period power plays.
  • The Yellow Jackets shifted momentum in the second, outshooting the Eagles 14-7; Henry Wilder made several tough stops throughout the period.
  • Boston College doubled its lead late in the frame as Jack McBain finished a two-on-zero rush at 17:51 following a turnover at AIC's blueline.
  • AIC took a penalty late in the period that carried over to the third. The Yellow Jackets killed it, and the momentum swung back in their favor as a result. Less than 30 seconds after the penalty expired, senior Parker Revering fired a shot from the right side of the net that popped past the shoulder of Eagles netminder Jack Moffatt to graduate student Justin Cole, who deposited the puck into the open cage at 2:21.
  • AIC nearly tied the game immediately after, as senior Elijiah Barriga rang a bid off the right post at 2:50.
  • The Yellow Jackets kept control of the period until nearly the midpoint, peppering Moffatt, but it was the hosts that scored the next goal, with Aidan Hreschuk unleashing a shot from the left circle that kissed the crossbar on the way in at 10:14.
  • Nikita Nesterenko added a goal for the hosts at 16:55 to put the game away and generate the 4-1 final.

UNUSUAL LINEUP:

  • Both teams dressed more than the normal number of skaters for the game; the Eagles had 15 forwards and seven defensemen, while the Yellow Jackets had 15 up front and eight on the blue line.
  • Each side also used all three available goalkeepers.

PENALTY KILL A STRENGTH:

  • AIC's man-down unit went 5-for-5 on the afternoon.
  • After allowing four shots on target on the first penalty of the afternoon, the Yellow Jackets allowed no more than one shot on goal in any of the four subsequent shorthanded situations.

WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS CONNECTIONS:

  • Boston College's arena is named after the late Rep. Silvio O. Conte, a BC alumnus who served as Congressional Representative of the 1st Massachusetts District, covering Western Massachusetts, from 1959 until his passing in 1991.
  • That seat, which now includes Springfield, is presently held by AIC alumnus Richard Neal '72.
