HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Chargers used some stellar defense in the first quarter to take the 17-3 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets got back to form in the second quarter as they tied the Chargers in second quarter scoring. Trailing 19-3, the Yellow Jackets almost doubled their point total in an 18 second span. It started with a jumper off the hands of freshman guard Kayla Robinson. Eleven seconds later, senior guard Rashana Siders stole a pass, found junior forward Asia Turner on the break who passed ahead to classmate Sara Guntin Barriero for the fast-break layup with 8:27 remaining in the quarter. AIC was able to cut their deficit down to seven when Siders gathered the pass from Robinson and drained a three. The Yellow Jackets kept rolling as they corralled the Chargers' offense while knocking down a pair of jumpers to make it a one possession game with 3:26 on the clock. The Chargers answered by scoring 11 straight points, six of which came at the charity stripe to take the 31-17 lead after 20 minutes of play.
  • Trailing 38-20 in the third stanza, the Yellow Jackets chipped away at the home lead to make it a 40-25 game. In the final two minutes of play in the quarter, the Chargers outscored the visitors 7-5 as they led 47-30 after three.
  • AIC kept pushing and fighting their way back into the game. They trailed 51-34 when Robinson nailed a jumper in the paint to bring it within 15. On the next possession, Siders swished a shot in the key followed by another Robinson pull-up jumper in the box to bring it to an 11-point game. The push was not enough as the Chargers took the game 60-46.
NEXT UP:
  • On Wednesday, February 19, the Yellow Jackets will round out their home season with an NE10 matchup against Le Moyne College.
