HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
  • Sophomore Kacie Allison faced eight batters through the first two innings and forced the Owls to leave a runner stranded in each inning. SCSU was able to push a run across in the top of the third to take the 1-0 lead.
  • The Yellow Jackets answered in the bottom of the third. It all started when senior Sarah Baganz hit a ball at the third basemen who was unable to handle the play. After another Owl error off the bat of freshman Victoria Andrade, sophomore Makaylah Mutz waked to load the bases. Senior Kaley Kempf then walked, which allowed Baganz to score from third.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, senior Lydia DePina was on second when Baganz forced another Owl error by the second basemen that allowed DePina to cross the plate.
  • AIC continued to string things together in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, DePina and Kennedy got things going. After an AIC out, they moved to second and third on a wild pitch. DePina and Kennedy were driven in on a single to center by Andrade to make it a 4-1 game. Mutz followed that up with a no-doubt home run to extend the AIC lead to five.
  • With one out in the top of the seventh, the Owls were able to put a runner on base but were unable to move that runner past first as AIC forced a fly out with two out to take the first game of the day.

Game 2:
  • In the wet and wild second game, neither team was able to find the scoreboard until the third.
  • Fortunately for the Yellow Jackets, they found the runs first. It started when junior Ariana DiCioccio helped her cause with a single through the right side to get things started. With one out, Baganz singled to left and moved DiCioccio up a base. After another AIC out, they each advanced a base on a passed ball. Mutz then singled to the third basemen that allowed Baganz to move to third and DiCioccio to score. Baganz then scored on the Owl's second passed ball in the inning. Allison helped the Yellow Jackets take control of the game with a two-run home run to left center to make it 4-0.
  • In their next at-bat, sophomore Olivia Ortega was at second, and Kennedy was at first with two outs. Baganz dug into the box and singled down the left field line to push Ortega across the plate.
  • The Owls started to chip away in the top of the fifth. After plating two runners, they had runners on the corners with no outs. The Yellow Jackets traded a run for the first out as the Owls made it a 5-3 game with runners on first. AIC allowed a runner to advance to third on a fielder's choice as they got the runner at second. Sophomore Jalia Santos caught a line drive for the third out. The umpires then called the game based on the field conditions.
