HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Penmen found their groove in the first inning. With the bases loaded, the Penmen hit a single to left that allowed one run to score. The next hitter hit a fly ball to right field that allowed the runner to tag from third and give them a 2-0 lead.
- In the top of the third, Jordan Wade went deep to left center to take a 3-0 lead. The Yellow Jacketswere unable to push any runs across in the setback.
Game 2:
- The Penmen struck early in the second inning. After reaching second on a hit and then an AIC error, Emily Carbonneau singled up the middle to score Jordan Wade from the middle bag. After recording an out, Gabriella Vachon singled up the middle to score two Penmen to make it a 3-0 game.
- In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Brianna Rivera got on base on an error by the Penmen second basemen. Sophomore Oliva Ortega came in to pinch run and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Olivia Gonzalez. Senior Lydia DePina then single to the shortstop to give AIC runners on the corners with two outs, but were not able to plate a run before the third out.
- AIC put stress on the Penmen in the bottom of the sixth. After singling up the middle, senior Sarah Baganz found herself on second with one out. Sophomore Makayla Mutz singled through the left side to move Baganz to third. Sophomore Kacie Allison then flied out to right field, and Baganz tagged up but was thrown out at home to end the inning.
COACH'S CORNER:
- "I was happy with the way the team played defense and the way the pitchers threw. We just needed our bats to come alive," said head coach Shalise Tolentino.
