HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the first period, AIC had a 13-5 shot advantage, but the Lakers notched the only goal, as Steven Ipri took advantage of a power play to strike at 6:45 of the frame.
- Special teams continued to be the name of the game in the second, but this time it was in AIC's favor; junior Brennan Kapcheck dished to senior Blake Christensen, who in turn set up junior Austin Albrecht's first of the year at 8:21 on the power play.
- Another man-advantage goal gave the Yellow Jackets the lead late in the frame, with senior Hugo Reinhardt as the finisher from classmates Martin Mellberg and Janis Jaks.
- Mercyhurst's freshmen led the way in the third, with Dante Spagnuolo and Carver Watson scoring their first collegiate goals just 1:18 apart; at 9:02 of the frame, the hosts had regained the lead.
- AIC turned to its veteran players and had a great response, with redshirt sophomore Luka Maver tying the game on a play from senior Patrik Demel at 14:37.
- In the overtime, the Lakers won the game, as Ipri lit the lamp again at 3:13 to give the home squad a series split.
MORE RECORDS FALL:
- Christensen's assist gives him 58 for his career; having tied the team record in the prior game, he now stands alone as the program's Division I-era leader in helpers.
- With 15 goals in two games, the team broke its record for most goals in a two-game set against the same opponent; AIC had scored 14 in a series on January 20-21, 2017 at Niagara, winning 7-3 and 7-2.
