Women's basketball comes up short vs. SNHU

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team fell to Southern New Hampshire University 73-57 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Saturday, January 26 at Butova Gym.

Record: AIC falls to 10-10 overall and 5-7 in the NE10, while SNHU improves to 12-7 overall and 5-7 in NE10 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A little over two minutes into the game, the Penmen scored the first two points of the game from senior forward Kylie Lorenzen. SNHU proceeded to score three more before senior forward Dana Watts knocked down the first basket for the Yellow Jackets.

With 2:12 remaining in the opening quarter, SNHU converted a layup, giving the Penmen a 14-7 advantage. AIC finished the quarter on a 14-2 run, tying the game at 16.

SNHU regained the lead in the second quarter and got up by as many as eight points, but AIC battled back to trail just 32-29 at the break.

The Penmen opened the second half on a 6-0 run, growing their lead to nine points with 6:35 left to go in the third quarter. With 4:22 remaining in the third, SNHU had their largest lead of the game, up 14 points. AIC later cut that deficit in half before the end of the third quarter, trailing 52-45.

The game started to get away from AIC late as SNHU's lead went up to 17 with under 5 minutes to play in the final quarter. The Yellow Jackets were only able to cut it to 14 points, before eventually falling to SNHU 73-57.

Watts is currently second in AIC history for points scored with 1,989, behind just Juana Garcia (2,189).

Watts is currently third in AIC history for field goals made with 692, sitting behind Sharmion Selman (827) and Garcia (894).

Watts is in sole possession of the free throws made record with 579 in just 108 games. Current AIC head coachKristen Hutchisonis second on the list with 511 made free throws in 120 games.

Watts is second in total rebounds with 1055, behind only Garcia (1223).

Watts is second in defensive rebounds with 703, behind Garcia, who holds the AIC record (726).

Watts is sixth all-time in offensive rebounds with 352, seventh in blocks with 126, and ninth in minutes played with 3141.
