Women's rugby splits at Brown 7s

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island- The American International College women's rugby team took part in the Brown 7s and went 2-2 in game action on Sunday, April 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1 vs. Sacred Heart:
  • JuniorElizabeth Harveygot the Yellow Jackets going in the first game of the day. Harvey scored two tries and converted them both to give the team a 14-5 lead in the first six minutes of the game. Senior Shamira Robles added a try before the half to give the Yellow Jackets a lead of 21-5 at the break.
  • The Yellow Jackets added three more tries in the second half to take the game 36-5.
Game 2 vs. Harvard:
  • Harvard started off the game with a try, but senior Bridget Kahele added a try with a conversion by Harvey to make it a 7-5 game in favor of AIC. Harvard outscored AIC the rest of the way, however, as the Crimson ended up taking the game 22-14.
Game 3 vs. Dartmouth:
  • The game was back-and-forth in the first half. Dartmouth opened the game with a try and a conversion. Sophomore Allyson Pothier then scored to make it 7-5.
  • After another Dartmouth try, graduate student Kristen Kvalvik scored to make it a 12-10 game at the half.
  • Dartmouth scored three straight times in the second frame on its way to a 33-15 win.
Game 4 vs. Brown:
  • Brown scored 25 seconds into game to give the hosts the early lead. Freshman Siale Alatini found the try zone and converted the kick to tie the game at seven. Brown added one try before the half to take the 14-7 lead at the break.
  • Sophomore Jamila Davis scored early into the second half to make it 14-12. Kahele then scored for the third time on the day to give the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the game. Robles put the icing on the cake to make it a 22-14 final.

UP NEXT
  • The Yellow Jackets will host the AIC Invite on Saturday, April 14 with the first game kicking off at 9 a.m.
