HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Owls started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. With one out and runners on first and second, Jordan McHale singled to left to push across a run. The next hitter tripled, and one run scored, but the Yellow Jackets were able to get the second runner at the plate.
- AIC answered back in the top of the third. Junior right fielder Ashley Hughes led things off with a single to short before stealing second and third. Graduate student shortstop Yami Lopez-Perez singled on a bunt that allowed Hughes to score.
- SCSU pulled away in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on four hits to extend its lead to 5-1.
Game 2:
- In the bottom of the second inning, the Owls led things off with a triple. The runner would come around to score on a passed ball to give them the 1-0 lead. One inning later, they added another run to put them up by a pair.
- The Yellow Jackets then started to string hits together in the top of the fourth. Freshman left fielder Bonnie Kennedy led things off with a single through the left side. After back-to-back outs, Kennedy stole second before senior pitcher Kayla Riley doubled to right center and Kennedy came around to score.
- The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the top of the fifth. Sophomore third baseman Jess Lingenberg led things off with a single and freshman Jalia Santos came in to pinch run. Sophomore second baseman Sarah Baganz then laid down a bunt to move Santos over, but the throw from the charging first basemen was off the mark, and Santos came around to score and Baganz stopped at third. She would come across the plate on a single by Hughes to give AIC the 3-2 lead.
- With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Owls tied the game and forced extra softball.
- With a runner on second and two outs, junior designated player Kaley Kempf put the ball in play and sophomore center fielder Lydia DePina came around to score and give AIC the 4-3 lead.
BUZZWORTHY:
- Senior first baseman Alexa DiLeo finishes her career on a 96-game errorless streak. The last time she made an error was on March 31, 2016 against Saint Michael's.
