SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team hosted Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Tuesday, February 6. The Owls attempted to make a late push, but the Yellow Jackets hit free throws down the stretch to win their second straight.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore guard Rashana Siders started the scoring for the Yellow Jackets with a jumper to give AIC the 2-0 lead. Siders added another jumper before junior forward Dana Watts added a shot to give the Yellow Jackets the 6-0 led almost three minutes into the game.
- The Owls finally knocked down their first field goal of the game at 6:57, but junior guard Dominique Boyd hit a triple to make it 9-2. Watts started a 9-0 AIC run over the next four minutes to give the team the 20-5 lead. After one quarter, the Yellow Jackets led 20-9.
- The first five minutes of the second quarter were in favor of the Owls as they went on an 11-4 run and made it a 24-20. They continued to cut their deficit down as low as two, 24-22, at the 3:50 mark.
- AIC rallied back and took the 31-26 lead as the two teams went into the locker room.
- Siders started the scoring for the Yellow Jackets in the second half with a deep ball just nine seconds in and started a 6-0 AIC run. The Owls stopped the run with a pair of free throws to start their own run of seven unanswered points. After three quarters, the Yellow Jackets led by nine, 46-36.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to roll, but more importantly played good defense. AIC kept its lead to at least seven throughout the fourth quarter, knocking down free throws and taking the game 63-51.
GAME NOTES:
- Boyd's 19 points is a career high. Her previous high was seven against Roberts Wesleyan earlier this season.
- Watts started the season in 19thplace in scoring in program history. She has jumped up to fifthplace and is just 17 points behind her coach, Kristen Hutchison, for fourth place.
- For the fourth time in the last five games, the Yellow Jackets outrebounded their opponents.
- Sharing is caring for the Yellow Jackets, as AIC has recorded 13-plus assists in 12 games this season.
- Junior guard Alyssa Guyon has now scored in double figures in 18 games this season, and also posted her sixth straight game in double figures.
