HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite AIC holding an 11-8 advantage in shots in the opening frame, UMass Lowell had the advantage on the scoreboard in the first period, entering the locker room with a 3-0 lead.
  • The River Hawks made it a 4-0 game by the 7:43 mark of the second period, and though the Yellow Jackets threatened during a 5-on-3 opportunity midway through the second period, AIC could not convert.
  • Senior goaltender Alex Murray made eight third-period saves to keep the River Hawks off the board in the final 20 minutes.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • The Yellow Jackets are winless in their Tuesday games this season, posting an 0-1-2 record in those contests.
  • This is the third time this season - and the first time in nonconference action - that AIC has been shut out.
  • AIC closes out its out-of-conference slate with a 1-5 record in nonconference play.
  • AIC has not won a contest this season in which it has allowed three or more goals.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "I thought we were fairly motivated when we got the puck," said AIC ice hockey coach Eric Lang. "When it came time to play offense, I thought our group was motivated, I thought we worked really hard. But we weren't quite as motivated defensively tonight, I think we gave up two or three breakaways in the first seven or eight minutes of the game."
  • "I think quite often when you get to get out of conference and get a taste of a team like UMass Lowell that is unbelievably stingy and defend the way they defend, it's a little eye opening for our group in terms of how we want to do it. They are a little bit of the model of what we want to be in Atlantic Hockey, and we're not even close, to be quite honest. I told our group that - in terms of how they block shots, in terms of faceoff intensity, stick detail, how to defend, that was a clinic for 60 minutes on how you defend. And we'll learn from it, and grow from it, and we'll be better for it."

NEXT UP:
  • AIC will enjoy an 11-day break before returning to the MassMutual Center for the team's regular season home finale against College of the Holy Cross on February 17.
  • The Yellow Jackets will celebrate Senior Day prior to the contest, which is set for 2:05 p.m.
