Women's rugby falls to Army West Point

WEST POINT, New York - The American International College women's rugby team opened their season at Army West Point. The Yellow Jackets faced many obstacles as they fell to the Black Knights 76-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Black Knights took any early 31-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets got on a board with a try from Lymas.
  • At the half, AIC trailed Army West Point 43-5.
  • AIC played a player down due to injuries. Despite playing a woman down, AIC scored three more times in the second half.
GAME NOTES:
  • Freshmen Ashley Torres and Brooke Bruneault played very well in their first-ever rugby match.
  • The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-5 all-time against Army West Point.
COACH'S CORNER:
  • "The whole team equipped themselves well in the second half and it was hard to pick any one player out, but Courtney Welsh had a tremendous performance on her birthday," said AIC coach Peter Lang. "Our two walk-ons, Ashley Torres and Brooke Bruneault, equipped themselves tremendously well considering they had never played a game of rugby before."
