SYRACUSE, New York- The American International College women's basketball team looked to extend their second-place lead over the Dolphins of Le Moyne on Saturday, February 4 on the road. The Dolphins defended their home court with an 85-72 win over the Yellow Jackets.
Alyssa Guyon led the team with 19 points as she also pulled down five boards.
Dana Watts had 18 points, nine boards, three assists, and two blocks in the AIC loss.
Watts started the game by picking up her first foul just 17 seconds into the game as Joanna Dobrovosky of Le Moyne knocked down two from the line. Watts responded with a jumper to tie the game. With 4:31 left, the Yellow Jackets had their second lead of the game when
Jayda Gilmore hit a pair at the charity stripe and made it a 13-12 game. But after one quarter, the Yellow Jackets trailed 25-18.
AIC worked to cut its deficit down in the second half, but the closest they got was three at the 9:14 mark on a jumper by
Nadia Wooten. At the half, the Yellow Jackets trailed by six, 44-38.
The second half started with a 6-2 run by AIC over the first two and a half minutes. The Dolphins continued to shoot well as they led by 16, 70-54, after three quarters of play.
The Yellow Jackets started a late run with 6:30 left to play in the game. An 11-0 run over four minutes made it a six-point game with 2:20 on the clock. That was as close as AIC got as the team fell 85-72 to the Dolphins.
The Dolphins shot a season high 50 percent from long range with a season-high 12 made triples. They also shot a season high 53 percent from the field against the Yellow Jackets.
AIC returns to action on Tuesday, February 7, when it travels to New Haven, Connecticut, to take on Southern Connecticut State University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
