HOW IT HAPPENED:
- AIC got out to a 2-0 lead quickly thanks to a pair of goals from junior center Shawn McBride in the first period - the first came just 3:05 into the game off assists from freshman forward Tobias Fladeby and senior assistant captain Andrew DeBrincat. The second came just six minutes later, this time off assists from Fladebyand sophomore forward Blake Christensen.
- Bentley got a goal back in the second period from Alexey Solovyev, making the score 2-1, and then also got a goal in the third period from Ryner Gorowsky to knot things up at the 9:20 mark.
- AIC outshot the Falcons 18-11 in the third period, but could not take the lead, and neither team scored in overtime, ending the evening with a draw.
BUZZWORTHY:
- AIC has now played Bentley to a tie in the last six meetings between the teams, including twice already this season and in both meetings during the 2016-17 season.
- McBride is now also the team's leader with four goals - tied with Vito Bavaro of Sacred Heart and Luke Lynch of Robert Morris for the highest total in Atlantic Hockey.
COACH'S CORNER:
- "I thought we competed pretty hard and have to avoid some self-inflicted wounds," said AIC head hockey coach Eric Lang. "We go up 2-0 and take a penalty 200 feet from our net. The next shift it's 2-1. Late in the third, defending the lead, we get a player late in a shift trying to stick-handle through some of their players, we turn it over, duplicate on the backcheck, and it's 2-2."
- "I loved our push in the third and thought Argue made some good stops," he added. "It's a game we have to finish and close. We have now surrendered two games to Bentley with a third-period lead. At some point, being young and inexperienced becomes a lousy excuse for not closing these games out. But I'm very encouraged about what we have here and what we are building. We have to keep progressing."
NEXT UP:
- AIC will enjoy a weekend off before heading to Rochester, New York, to take on RIT on November 3 and 4.
