Harvey Sets New Sevens Single-Season Point Record as Women's Rugby Wins Bowdoin Sevens Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine Freshman Anne-Laurence Harvey (Quebec, Canada) continued to shatter records en route to helping American International College Capture the Bowdoin Sevens Championship this afternoon.

Harvey collected 61 points on nine tries and eight conversions to give her 235 points this spring breaking Jessica Davis' single-season sevens record of 203 set last year.

Sophomore Shamira Robles (Bronx, N.Y.) added four tries for 20 points on the day while freshman Bulou Mataitoga (Richmond, Calif.) added three tries and one conversion for 17 points.

AIC dominated a pair of pool play matches defeating Army 2 and Boston University by scores of 36-0 and 41-7, respectively as they outscored their opponents 123-24 overall on the day.

Both Harvey and Mataitoga collected a pair of tries in the opener against the Black Knights before Robles tipped the hat-trick against the Terriers to lead AIC to the semifinals against Norwich.

The Cadets opened the scoring, but Mataitoga and Harvey collected back-to-back tries and both conversions were sent through the uprights by Harvey for the 14-5 lead at the half. Harvey again broke free for another try in the second half and a late Norwich try accounted for the 19-12 final.

In the Championship the Jackets faced off against West Point's finest in their A squad and dominated early and often taking a 17-0 lead into the intermission. Harvey and Robles added long tries in the second half and despite a Black Knight try mixed in they captured their second-straight sevens crown and third of the spring with a 29-5 victory.

AIC concludes their spring 2016 slate with a final sevens tournament next weekend at Army.
