Ice hockey draws with Canisius

BUFFALO, New York - The American International College ice hockey team tied with Canisius College, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon at the HarborCenter.

AIC moves to to 2-4-5 on the year and 2-3-4 in Atlantic Hockey play.

Freshman goaltender Zackarias Skog made 33 saves in the contest, and allowed just one goal for the second time this season. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets blasted 40 shots on net - their highest total this year - while Canisius goalie Charles Williams came up with saves on 39 of those shots.

AIC took the initial lead in a monster second period in which it outshot Canisius 16-9. Freshman center Hugo Reinhardt broke a goalless drought for AIC when he notched a shorthanded goal with two and a half minutes remaining in the second period. He took the puck up the ice by himself and sent the puck over Williams to give AIC a 1-0 lead.

The goal was the third shorthanded tallyof the season for the Yellow Jackets, and it was also the first of Reinhardt's collegiate career. Sophomore Marc Dubeau and junior Dominic Racobaldo each earned assists on the goal for their first points of the year.

AIC had 28 shots on goal through two periods, its highest total through two periods this season, and again outshot Canisius 11-7 in the third period, but Nick Hutchison's goal at the 6:29 mark of the third knotted things up at one goal apiece. Neither team would score for the remainder of the game - AIC had just one shot in overtime, and Canisius two - and the score held at 1-1 for the final.

AIC will have a short turnaround and be back in action at home on Tuesday, November 22, against Sacred Heart University at the MassMutual Center. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
