Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Hockey posts second straight tie with Bentley

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - For the second consecutive game, the American International College ice hockey team played to a draw against Bentley University, with a final score of 1-1 on Thursday, November 10, at the MassMutual Center.

With a 2-2 draw on Tuesday and another draw on Thursday, AIC moves to 2-3-4 on the year with a 2-2-3 record in conference. The Yellow Jackets currently sit in third place in the Atlantic Hockey standings.

AIC allowed the fewest goals it has all season, with the strong play of freshman goaltender Zackarias Skog, who had 36 saves in the 65-minute effort, bringing his total to 66 stops between the two-game series. Skog improves his season goals-against average to 2.80 with a save percentage of .916.

On the flipside, AIC posted 38 shots on goal against Bentley goaltender Jayson Argue, who made 37 saves in the game.

Junior winger Johno May had AIC's only goal of the night, tying the game at one goal apiece on a power play 10:35 into the second period. With Bentley's Chris Buchanan in the box for a five-minute elbowing penalty, May evened things up with a low wrister from the bottom of the left circle that deflected off a defenseman in front and over the glove of Argue.

Bentley took the initial 1-0 lead in the second period with a goal from Kyle Schmidt.

Neither team could score in the five-minute overtime period, though Bentley came close with a shot from Jake Kauppila that rang off the pipe. Both teams had chances, as Bentley stormed the net and totaled five shots on goal in the extra frame, compared to AIC's four.

Freshman Martin Mellberg had six shots on net on the evening, while three more Yellow Jackets - Blake Christensen, Bryant Christian and Austin Orszulak - recorded four apiece. Junior Dominic Racobaldo had a strong defensive effort, recording three blocked shots.

AIC returns to action with a two-game series in Buffalo, New York, against Canisius College beginning on Friday, November 18.
