Ice hockey falls to Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pennsylvania - The American International College ice hockey team dropped a contest to Mercyhurst University on Saturday, October 29, by a score of 6-3. A night after picking up its first win of the year, AIC drops to 1-3-1 on the year and 1-2-0 in Atlantic Hockey play.

AIC fell into a 4-0 hole by the end of the first period, and that deficit swelled to 6-0 before AIC scored the final three goals of the game.

Senior Austin Orszulak put the Yellow Jackets on the board with just under five minutes remaining in the second period when he fired a quick snapper from the top of the circle, with sophomore Shawn McBride and freshman Dominik Florian recording assists on the play. Florian has now scored at least a point in four of the Yellow Jackets' five games this season.

Junior Bryant Christian added an unassisted tally less than two minutes after Orszulak's goal to put AIC within 6-2. Sophomore Ryan Polin notched a shorthanded goal off a wrister on an odd-man rush 8:35 into the third period for his first of the year, with an assist from freshman Jared Pike. But the score would remain at 6-3, despite the Yellow Jackets outshooting the Lakers 14-7 in the final frame.

Forthe entire game, Mercyhurst held the edge in shots, 33-31. Freshman Zackarias Skog made 27 stops for the Yellow Jackets.

AIC returns to action on Thursday, November 3, with a home matchup slated against the College of the Holy Cross for 7:05 p.m.
