The American International College women's rugby team had a comfortable win against Norwich University on Saturday, October 22. First blood was drawn by Norwich with a penalty kick to put them 3-0 up early on, but the first half was dominated by the Yellow Jackets. The result was three unanswered tries to finish the half. Two tries came from
Anne-Laurence Harvey and one from
Shanell Russo.
Sarah Coucci added points on two conversions.
Norwich was desperate for the win, as it was vital for their playoff aspirations, and came out much stronger in the second half. They played to their strengths and to the worsening weather conditions by using their forwards close in and were able to add two tries in the second half but the Yellow Jacket defense stood strong under the test.
Molly Plante added a try, which was converted by
Sarah Coucci to make the final score 26-13.
"It was a shame that the conditions were so bad as it really prevented us playing attractive, high tempo rugby that is our style, but we proved today that we can adjust well and are strong under pressure," said head coach Peter Lang after the game. "The score, as often is the case, does not tell the story of what was a very one sided game. The lessons we take away from this game will be highly valuable for our game against Quinnipiac next week."
The Yellow Jackets wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday, October 29 at reigning national-champion Quinnipiac University.
