WATERTOWN, Mass.-Despite keeping the nation's hottest power play off the board, the American International College hockey team suffered a 5-1 setback at the hands of the Bentley Falcons at the John A. Ryan Skating Arena.
The Yellow Jackets jumped on the scoresheet early, as freshman right wing
David Norris (Calgary, Alb.) sent junior center
Alexander MacMillan (Calgary, Alb.) and senior left wing
Jon Puskar (Canton, Mich.) in on a two-on-one; MacMillan dished to Puskar, who fired home his seventeenth of the season just 3:20 into the game. For Norris, it was his twenty-seventh assist and thirty-first point of the season; he leads all rookies in points and is tied for the overall lead in assists among forwards.
However, that was it for AIC's offense, as Bentley took over from there; they tied the game at 6:36 when junior center Alex Grieve netted his twenty-first of the year, and on a late goal, Grieve set up senior right wing Brett Gensler for his eighteenth of the year at 19:43.
The second period was more of the same; senior left wing Justin Breton notched his fifth of the season at 11:15, and then Gensler helped set up Grieve at 19:40 for his twenty-second of the season; Gensler's assist gave him 159 career points, a new record for Atlantic Hockey.
The only goal of the third belonged to junior left wing Brett Switzer, who tallied his ninth of the year at 13:59 to close out the scoring.
Freshman
Hunter Leisner (Garland, Texas) stopped 32 shots in the loss to fall to 8-14-1, while senior Branden Komm had 31 saves to improve to 17-10-4 in the win.
The two teams close out the regular season tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center. It will be senior night, and the Yellow Jackets will honor their five seniors: center and captain
Blake Peake (Lethbridge, Alb.), Puskar, center
Whitney Olsen (Eagan, Minn.), defenseman and assistant captain
Nick Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.), and goalkeeper
Ryan Kerpan (Saskatoon, Sask.) prior to the contest.
