WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-The top line of the Bentley Falcons had a hand in all five goals as sophomore center Max French (West Kelowna, B.C.) had a 5-point night and senior left wing Brett Switzer (Calgary, Alb.) scored his 100th point in a 5-2 win over the American International College hockey team.
AIC drops to 2-11-4 on the year and 2-6-4 in the AHC, while Bentley improves to 9-8-2 and 7-4-2 in league play.
Bentley scored the first goal of the game at 12:28, as French pounded a shot home from the right circle for his 13th of the season; Switzer had the second assist on the goal, giving him 100 career points.
Switzer then extended the lead in the second frame to 2-0 on a deflection in front on the power play at 5:19 for his sixth of the campaign; a minute ten later, senior center Alex Kubiak (Tinley Park, Ill.) scored on a delayed penalty to make it 3-0 with his fourth of the year on a shot from the slot.
AIC rallied, however, killing the subsequent penalty and then generating a goal as junior defenseman Derek Henderson (Smithfield, R.I.) made a play across the zone to senior center Alexander MacMillan (Calgary, Alb.), who in turn hit an open sophomore left wing Austin Orszulak (Springfield, Mass.) for a one-timer that he put under the bar at 8:52 for his team-best 11th of the season.
Bentley, however, was not done in the period, and on a 5-on-3 PP, Gladiuk ripped a blast home from the middle of the ice for his team-best 14th of the year at 18:35.
Switzer added another goal in the third at 12:35 to make it 5-1 Bentley with his seventh of the season, before AIC responded with another tally from the third line as freshman center Bryant Christian (Moorhead, Minn.) and senior left wing Matt Cassidy (London, Ont.) set up a one-timer from the slot for senior right wing Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, Colo.) for his second of the year at 14:08.
In goal, senior Blake Dougherty (East Amherst, N.Y.) was the winner for Bentley, improving to 3-3-1 on the year with 17 saves, while freshman Alex Murray (Burlington, Ont.) had 30 saves in the loss for AIC to fall to 2-7-3.
AIC returns to action on December 30 with a non-conference contest at Clarkson's Cheel Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m.
