Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Ice Hockey Team Takes Down Army 4-1 to Win Season Series

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) and junior forward Blake Peake (Lethbridge, Alb.) scored one goal with one assist each to lead the American International College men's ice hockey team to a 4-1 Atlantic Hockey victory over Army Tuesday afternoon at the Olympia Ice Center.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 10-15-6 overall and 7-12-6 in the AHA with the win, and improved to 5-1-3 in their last nine games. AIC also won the season-series 2-1-0 with the victory. The Black Knights fell to 7-18-5 overall and 7-13-5 in conference play with the loss.

Freshman forward Chris Porter (Stoufville, Ont.) gave the Yellow Jackets an early 1-0 lead when he found the back of the net off a feed from senior forward Steve Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) just 3:32 into the game on the power play following a boarding call to freshman forward Andrew O'Leary (Norwich, Vt.) 2:18 into the contest. That lead grew to 2-0 when sophomore forward Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, Colo.) threw what seemed to be a harmless shot towards the goal and it found its way past sophomore goalie Rob Tadazak (LaPeer, Mich.) at 8:07 of the first.

The score remained 2-0 in AIC's favor until sophomore defenseman Mac Lalor (Needham, Mass.) scored off a Yellow Jacket turnover at 15:32 of the second, cutting AIC's lead to 2-1 through two periods of play. Freshman forward Shane Hearn (Auburn, Maine) picked off a pass attempt in the neutral zone and fed the puck to Lalor for the goal.

The Yellow Jackets were awarded a five-minute power play 5:11 into the third after O'Leary was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for contact to the head, and Pleskach capitalized at 9:26 of the final period to extend AIC's lead back to two.

Peake capped the scoring at 16:01 of the third when his dump in attempt took a strange bounce of a stanchion in the right corner and snuck in behind Tadazak, who lost sight of the puck on the play.

Senior goalie Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) recorded 31 saves to improve to 9-13-6 for the season, and raise his school and league record career saves total to 3,566. He also moved into 17th on the NCAA Division I career saves list, passing Denver's Ron Graham who made 3,565 career saves from 1970-73. Tadazak fell to 3-10-4 after making 25 saves.

AIC won the game despite being outshot 32-29 in the game. The Yellow Jackets were 2-for-5 on the power play, while Army was 0-for-3.

AIC will return to action Friday when it hosts a 7:05 p.m. Atlantic Hockey contest against Bentley at the Olympia Ice Center.
