WORCESTER, Mass.—The American International College men's ice hockey team (9-15-6, 6-12-6 AHA) saw their national-best unbeaten streak end at seven games with a 4-1 loss to their conference rival, the Holy Cross Crusaders (16-12-3, 12-9-3 AHA) Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.
The Crusaders struck first at the 11:48 mark of the opening frame; with junior defenseman
Nick Campanale in the box for a cross-check, senior right wing Rob Linsmayer (Winnetka, Ill.) dropped a pass to freshman defenseman Karl Beckman (Okemos, Mich.), who then dished to junior center Shayne Stockton (Rochester, N.Y.) for a slapshot that beat senior goalkeeper
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) over the blocker for Stockton's eighth of the year.
Another Campanale penalty led to another Stockton PPG in the middle frame, with Linsmayer and Beckman assisting again; the goal, Stockton's ninth of the season, came at 18:08 of the frame.
In the third, the Crusaders got a third man-up goal, as Linsmayer passed to Stockton, who got the puck to senior left wing Brandon Nunn (Fairport, N.Y.) for his thirteenth of the year at 8:04.
Nunn then made it 4-0 from Linsmayer and Stockton on a 5-on-3, firing a puck off the near post, crossbar, and into the net for his fourteenth of the year at 15:08.
The Jackets did break the shutout, tallying on the 4-on-5 penalty kill at 15:58 as freshman defenseman
Brandon Lubin (Commerce Township, Mich.) sprung sophomore center
Brandon Fagerheim (Calgary, Alb.) for a shorthanded breakaway; though sophomore goalkeeper Matt Ginn (Lindsay, Ont.) made the initial save, the rebound came to junior right wing
Jon Puskar (Grosse Ile, Mich.), who ripped it high over Ginn's glove for his tenth of the year; Lubin and Fagerheim both earned their tenth assists of the year on the goal.
In goal, Meisner stopped 43 of 47 shots in the defeat to fall to 8-14-6 on the year, while Ginn denied 29 of 30 shots in the win, improving to 15-11-3 for the campaign.
