WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-Although they were tied 1-1 after one period, the Yellow Jackets ice hockey team fell to the Connecticut Huskies by an 8-1 score tonight.
The loss drops AIC to 3-4-0 on the year and 3-1-0 in Atlantic Hockey, while Connecticut improves to 4-4-1 and 3-1-0 in the AHA.
The Huskies struck first when junior forward Cody Sharib stuffed home a rebound at 15:48 of the first frame, but the Yellow Jackets responded when senior captain and center
Blake Peake (Lethbridge, Alb.) stole the puck behind the net, cut out in front and whipped a shot that hit Connecticut senior goalkeeper Matt Grogan and squirted through his five-hole for Peake's fourth of the year at 18:02.
However, Connecticut would score four in the second, including the game-winner by freshman forward Brent Norris at 1:12 of the frame on the power play, and added three more in the third to earn the 8-1 win.
Grogan stopped 17 shots out of 18 in the win to improve to 3-4-1 on the year, while freshman goalkeeper
Hunter Leisner (Garland, Texas) stopped 30 shots in the loss, dropping to 1-2-0 on the year.
AIC gets back onto the ice Tuesday when they host Army in an Atlantic Hockey contest at the Olympia Ice Center. The opening faceoff is slated for 7:05 p.m.
