Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Holy Cross, 6-2

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-1 Atlantic Hockey contest against Holy Cross on Tuesday night at the Olympia Ice Center. The Crusaders improve to 1-0-0 and 1-0-0 in the AHA, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference.

Holy Cross opened the contest at 1:01 in the first period when sophomore forward Jake Youso (International Falls, Minn.) buried a shot off a dish from senior forward Rob Linsmayer (Winnetka, Ill.) to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.

AIC knotted the contest at 1:31 in the second period when junior forward Jon Puskar (Grosse Ile, MI) had a breakaway off a pass from junior forward Blake Peake (Lethbridge, AB). Puskar scored his second goal of the contest and AIC's last goal of the night at 7:56 in the second period to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead. Sophomore forward Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, CO) earned the assist on Puskar's goal.

Holy Cross tied the contest at 2-2 at 12:11 when sophomore Nilan Nagy (Canonsburg, Pa.) scored from the blue line. Senior Brandon Nunn (Fairport, N.Y.) and senior Evan Zych (Kilbride, Ont.) earned the assists on Nagy's goal.

Nunn gave the Crusaders a 3-2 lead just 31 seconds after the third period started. Senior Kyle Fletcher (Kanata, Ont.) and senior Erik Vos (Carlisle, Ont.) both tallied an assist. Linsmayer found the back of the net just 16 seconds later off a pass from freshman Castan Sommer (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Youso.

Junior Mark Williamson (Centennial, Colo.) extended the lead for Holy Cross to 5-2 at 13:19 in the third period for an unassisted goal. Fletcher scored the last goal of the contest for the Crusaders at 19:08 for a 6-2 victory over AIC. Nunn and Linsmayer earned the assists on Fletchers goal.

Sophomore goaltender Matt Ginn (Lindsay, Ont.) made 39 saves to earn the win, while senior goalie Ben Meisner (Halifax, NS) stopped 41 shots in the loss.

Holy Cross outshot the Yellow Jackets 47-41, while both squads went 0-2 on the power play for the night.

AIC will return to action on October 26th when they host Union for a 7:05 p.m. non-conference contest at the Olympia Ice Center.
