Men's Ice Hockey Falls to UConn on Senior Night 4-3

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision Saturday evening against UConn in an Atlantic Hockey contest. The Uconn Huskies improved to 9-18-4 overall and 8-12-4 in the AHA, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 7-21-1 overall and 7-18-1 in league play.

Junior forward Nielsson Arcibal (Vista, Cali.) flicked the puck past Huskies sophomore goalie Garrett Bartus (St. Charles, Ill.) just 25 seconds into the first to give AIC the early 1-0 lead. Sophomore forward Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) and senior defenseman Mike Little (Enfield, Conn.) earned the assists on Arcibal's goal.

Freshman forward Jon Puskar (Grosse Ile, Mich.) found the back of the net at 7:12 and then again a little over two minutes later to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead. UConn got on the board at the 15:56 mark in the first when freshman forward Brant Harris (Esteven, Saskatchewan) found the back of the net off a pass from junior defenseman Brad Cooper (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore forward Sean Ambrosie (Moorhead, Minn.). AIC took the 3-1 lead into the second half.

The Huskies scored two goals in the second period to knot the game at 3-3. Junior forward Corey Jendras (Abingdon, Md.) scored at 1:12 and junior forward Ranallo Marcello (Burnaby, British Columbia) scored at 18:44.

The contest remained tied until 10:50 in the third when Huskie senior forward Andrew Olsen (Alexandria, Minn.) buried a shot past sophomore goaltender Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) to take the 4-3 lead. UConn took the victory on the evenings contest.

Bartus made four saves in 10:51, before being replaced by freshman goalie Matt Grogan (Gilbert, Ariz.) who made 20 saves in 49:02 to earn the victory for the Huskies. Meisner stopped 33 saves in the loss.

UConn outshot AIC 38-27.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets will travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army in the first round of playoffs.
