Men's Ice Hockey Falls Short to Bentley 3-2

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped an 3-2 decision with the Bentley University on Friday night in an Atlantic Hockey contest. The Yellow Jackets drop to 6-18-1 overall and 6-15-1 in Atlantic Hockey, while the win improves the Falcons record to 8-14-5 overall and 7-10-4 in conference play.

AIC got out to an early lead when junior forward Michael Penny (Calgary, Alb.) found the back of the net 2:54 into the first off a pass from sophomore forward Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) and sophomore defenseman Jeff Ceccacci (Placentia, Calif.). Bentley tied the game at 1-1, 16:22 into the first when Ryan Kayfes (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored for the Falcons

The Yellow Jackets gained the lead 5:22 into the second when freshman forward Steve Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) buried a shot past Bentley's junior goalie Kyle Rank (Islip, N.Y.). Senior forward Tom Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior forward Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ont.) earned the assists on Steve Mele's goal.

The Falcons scored two more goals to take control of the game for a 3-2 Bentley Victory. Freshman forward Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo.) and junior forward Jamie Nudy (West Chester, Pa.).

Freshman goaltender Ryan Kerpan (Saskatoon, Sask.) made 25 saves in the loss for the Yellow Jackets, Rank stopped 37 in the victory for Bentley.

AIC outshot the Falcons 39-28.

AIC will finish the weekend series at Bentley on Saturday night February 12th in an Atlantic Hockey Contest.
