Yellow Jackets Close Regular Season with 2-2 (OT) Tie at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The American International College men's ice hockey team tied Army 2-2 in overtime on Saturday night to close out the 2009-10 regular season. The Yellow Jackets finish with an overall record of 5-23-4 and 5-19-4 in Atlantic Hockey play, while the Black Knights finish 11-16-7 on the season and 10-12-6 in the conference.

Army got on the board first when freshman defenseman Cheyne Rocha (Rye, N.H.) netted his first career goal at 15:22 of the first period. Forwards, sophomore Danny Colvin (Vernon, N.J.) and freshman Mike Santee (Park Ridge, Ill.) were credited with the assists. Senior forward Owen Meyer (Dundee, Ill.) gave the Black Knights a two-goal lead when he buried a goal with 27-seconds remaining in the first period, with an assist from sophomore forward Mike Hull (Grosee Pointe Woods, Mich.).

AIC cut the Army lead to 2-1 as senior forward #Josh Froese# (Winkler, Man.) tallied a shorthanded goal off of a rebound by junior #Tom Mele# (Bronx, N.Y.) when he sprung free on a breakaway. Junior defenseman #Tomas Benovic# (Trencin, Slovakia) started the break out when he dished the puck to Mele from the Yellow Jackets defensive zone.

Junior forward #Steve McLeod# (Atikokan, Ont.) tied the score at 2-2 at the 10:25 mark of the third period, when he buried a pass from sophomore forward #Neilsson Arcibal# (Vista, Calif.).

Freshman netminder #Ben Meisner# (Halifax, N.S.) turned away 37 shots on the evening for AIC, while senior Joe Spracklen (Kennewick, Wash.) made 31 stops for Army.

The Yellow Jackets were outshot 39-33 on the night, but held a 12-10 advantage in the second period and 13-8 advantage in the third.
