Men's Ice Hockey Sweeps Weekend Set After 3-0 Win at Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. –The American International College ice hockey squad won their third contest of the season 3-0 over Mercyhurst Saturday evening. The win moves the Yellow Jackets to 3-7-0 overall and 3-7-0 in Atlantic Hockey while the loss drops the Lakers to 4-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the conference.

Senior forward Tom Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) scored the contest's first score 5:14 into the first-period. Sophomore forward Richard Leitner (Los Alamistos, Calif.) and freshman forward Nick Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.) earned the assists on Mele's goal. Mele's goal would be the only one the Yellow Jackets would need to earn the victory.

Freshman forward Jon Puskar (Grosse Ile, Mich.) scored AIC's next two goals at 10:11 in the first-period with assists from sophomore forward Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) and Chris Markiewicz (Calgary, Alb.). Puskar scored again on a powerplay 10 minutes into the second period to give AIC a 3-0 victory over the Lakers. Junior forward Michael Penny (Calgary, Alb.) and sophomore forward Nick Grasso (Smithtown, N.Y.) earned the assists on Puskar's second goal.

Sophomore goaltender Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) finished the game with 35 saves to earn the victory for the Yellow Jackets, while senior goaltender Ryan Zapolski (Erie, Pa.) had 12 saves in the loss.

The Lakers outshot AIC 35-15.

AIC will host Rochester Institute of Technology on December 3for a 7:05 p.m. Atlantic Hockey Contest.
