Yellow Jackets Swept in Buffalo

Buffalo, N.Y. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost 5-1 Saturday night in the back end of a weekend series with Canisius College. With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-24-1 this season and are 4-19-0 in the conference, while the win improves the Golden Griffins to 13-11-6 on the season and to 11-6-4 in Atlantic Hockey play.

Junior Jason Weeks (Seattle, Wash.) gave Canisius an early 1-0 lead as he scored a power-play goal at the 6:48 mark of the first period with assists from sophomores Corey Conarcher (Burlington, Ont.) and Vincent Scarsella (Lackawanna, N.Y.). The Golden Griffins took a 2-0 lead when junior Carl Hudson (Smooth Rock Falls, Ont.) found the back of the net with assists from Conarcher and Weeks. Just over a minute later, AIC got on the board when junior #Dean Yakura# (West Vancouver, B.C.) tallied his first goal of the season, on the power-play, with assists from junior #Chris Campanale# (Chester Springs, Pa.) and freshman #Luciano Primiani# (Montreal, Que.).

Hudson netted the only goal of the second period, on the power-play at 13:14 giving Canisius a 3-1 lead heading into the final period of play. Conarcher and Scarsella handed out the assists on Hudson's goal.
Freshman Wes Love (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) scored the game's fourth power-play goal early in the third period giving the Golden Griffins a 4-1 lead. Weeks and Scarsella handed out the assists on the goal. Sophomore Eric Rex (Fairview, Pa.) capped off the Canisius victory when he tallied his first goal of the season, just 1:06 after Love's goal, with assists from junior Peter MacDougall (Lumsden, Sask.) and sophomore Derek Danowski (Warren, Mich.).

Sophomore #Dan Ramirez# (Rochester, N.Y.) made 16 saves for the Yellow Jackets before he was replaced by classmate #Jake Anderson# (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who stopped three shots of him own. Junior Andrew Loewen (Winnipeg, Man.) made 29 stops in the victory for the Golden Griffins.

AIC outshot Canisius 30-24 on the night and 13-11 in the first period.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets take on Connecticut on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
