Penalties Hurt Yellow Jackets in 4-1 Loss at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost the series finale with UConn Saturday night 4-1. With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-5-1 overall and to 1-3-1 in Atlantic Hockey play, while the win improves the Huskies to 2-6-0 this season and to 2-3-0 in the conference.

For the second night in a row, UConn scored first, when freshman forward Jim Gallagher (Marquette, Mich.) tallied the first goal of his collegiate career 4:28 into the first period, with an assist from classmate Sean Ambrosie (Moorhead, Minn.). AIC tied the score at 1-1 with five-minutes remaining in the period, when senior forward #Mike McMillan# (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) buried a shot on the power-play with assists from junior #Mike Little# (Enfield, Conn.) and senior #Josh Froese# (Winkler, Man.).

Sophomore forward Marcello Ranallo (Burnaby, B.C.) put the Huskies up 2-1 when he netted a power-play goal, unassisted, at 10:54 of the second period. Just one-minute later, freshman defenseman Alex Gerke (Tomah, Wisc.) extended the UConn lead to 3-1 when he scored a power-play goal with assists from junior Andrew Olson (Alexandria, Minn.) and Ambrosie.

The Huskies added an empty net goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation for the 4-1 win.

Junior netminder #Jake Anderson# (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made 23 saves in his first career start for AIC. Freshman Jeff Larson (Balwin, Mo.) stopped 22 shots in the victory for the Huskies.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets take on Army in a home-and-home series beginning on Friday in West Point, N.Y.
