Milford. Conn. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost Tuesday night in their Atlantic Hockey opener at Sacred Heart, 5-3. With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-3-0 to open the season and to 0-1-0 in the conference, while the win improves the Pioneers to 2-1-0 overall and to 1-0-0 in the AHA. Junior #Dan Ramirez# (Rochester, N.Y.) made a 41 save effort between the pipes for AIC.

After a scoreless first period, senior #Mike McMillan# (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) put the Yellow Jackets up 1-0 when he found the back of the net at the 14-minute mark, with an assist from sophomore #Luciano Primiani# (Montreal, Que.). Sacred Heart scored two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead, before freshman #Adam Pleskach# (Beauejour, Man.), the AHA Rookie of the Week, continues to play well talling his fourth goal of the season, seven-minutes into the third period. Junior #Steve McLeod# (Atikokan, Ont.) and freshman #Jeff Ceccacci# (Placentia, Calif.) dished out the assists on the goal.

The Pioneers would not be down for long burying two goals in six-minutes to take a 4-2 advantage. Sophomore #Nielsson Arcibal# (Vista, Calif.) attempted to spark the comeback when he netted his first goal of the season, with an assist from Pleskach, but Sacred Heart would tallied an empty net goal to claim the 5-3 win.

Junior Oliver St. Onge (Wickham, Que.) stopped 31 shots in the win for the Pioneers.

Next up, AIC takes on Holy Cross in the season's first home-and-home series beginning on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center.
